iS5 vector control inverter
The iS5 is the most fully equipped inverter in the LS Electric (LG) range, built for drives that need dynamics, precision and room to grow. It runs vector control with or without a sensor and takes encoder feedback for closed-loop work, which gives high torque and steady running at low speed. Three-phase 400 V models cover 0.75 to 75 kW.

The construction is modular. Extra input and output modules, encoder cards and communication interfaces plug in, so one drive is built up to match a machine instead of being replaced when the specification moves on. Modbus, DeviceNet and Profibus are supported, which covers most PLC installations. A braking card is available up to 7.5 kW, and starting torque reaches 150% at 0.5 Hz.
Multi-motor configurations are part of the design, and the diagnostics are built for a demanding process rather than a simple machine. The keypad is an LCD or LED unit with autotuning and preset control modes, so a first start-up stays readable for an engineer who does not spend every day in a parameter list.
Sizing takes more thought here than on a general purpose drive. We need the motor power, the rated current and the character of the load: steady, varying, shock, or needing fast torque control. Where accuracy or low-speed stability is critical we also need the encoder type and how it will be wired back to the drive.
Then the communications, the expansion cards, and the combined load if more than one motor runs from the drive. Ambient temperature, dust and ventilation decide the enclosure and the mounting position. Typical duties are pumps, fans, conveyors, packing machines and centrifuges. Send the application details and we will confirm the configuration, with availability confirmed on the quote.

Questions about the LG / LS iS5 series
When do I need encoder feedback?
When the speed has to be held accurately or the machine runs at very low speed under load. Closed-loop vector control with an encoder gives stable running where sensorless control starts to drift. If neither applies, sensorless vector is enough and saves the encoder and its wiring. Tell us the accuracy the process needs and we will say which one to specify.
Which fieldbus protocols does the iS5 support?
Modbus, DeviceNet and Profibus, through communication cards that plug into the drive. That covers most PLC installations without a gateway in between. The same modular approach adds extra inputs and outputs or an encoder card. Tell us which protocol your controller speaks and we will include the right card in the quote.
Can one iS5 run more than one motor?
Multi-motor configurations are part of the design. The important thing is sizing: the drive is matched to the combined load of the motors, not to one of them, and the protective functions are set to suit the group. Send us the motor list with the ratings and the duty and we will work out the drive size from the total.
How much torque does it give at low speed?
Starting torque reaches 150% at 0.5 Hz. With an encoder fitted, the drive also holds that control steadily at low speed rather than just at the moment of starting, which is what a hoist or a heavy conveyor needs. For shock loads, send us the load profile so we can build in a margin.
Is the iS5 hard to commission?
It is a more capable drive than a general purpose inverter, so there is more to set. The LCD or LED keypad has autotuning and preset control modes, which gets a standard drive running quickly. The time goes into the vector parameters, the encoder and the expansion cards, and we help with all three at the selection stage.
