Planetary gear motors

A planetary unit shares the load across several planet gears running around a sun gear inside a fixed ring, so the torque capacity for its size is far above any other gearing. Stages stack to reach very high ratios, the output stays on the motor axis, and the housing is short and round.

Slewing rings, winches, heavy mixers, screw presses, tracked and wheeled machines, and any drive with shock or reversing loads.

Gear units behind these gear motors

Each series below is supplied with an IEC motor fitted; the full unit range is under planetary gearboxes.

    EX planetary gearboxes

EX planetary gearboxes carry very high loads in a compact frame: foot or flange mounting, IEC-PAM adapter and the EXB right-angle version. quoted within one working day.

Questions we get asked

When is planetary the right choice?

When you need a lot of torque from a small unit, when the load shocks or reverses, or when the ratio is very high and the drive must stay coaxial. For a plain conveyor at moderate torque a helical unit is cheaper and just as good.
