Inline helical gearboxes

An inline helical gearbox puts the output in line with the motor and reduces speed through meshing cylindrical gear pairs. It is the efficient, compact answer for most industrial drives: modern helical units run at over 95 per cent efficiency, carry high torque for their size, run quietly and take overload well. We supply two families here, AMP and AMF, and WPR.

AMP and AMF are built on a one-piece cast housing and cover 12 to 4500 Nm, 0.03 to 88.97 kW and ratios from 1/2.4 to 1/301.2, with a modular output flange for integration into the machine. WPR is the classic straight-tooth cylindrical unit: light, efficient and available across a wide range of ratios, which suits simple drives and larger installations alike.

Choosing between them comes down to torque, output speed, mounting type, IP rating, cooling and lubrication, plus the duty cycle and the environment the drive has to live in. Send us those and we size the gearbox against the real load, then quote within one working day.

Questions we get asked

How do I choose an inline helical gearbox?

It depends on the working conditions, the type of drive, the rotational speed and the torque. Start with the output speed and torque the machine needs, then the ratio and the frame size that leaves a margin. We go through the parameters with you and recommend the unit, rather than leaving you to read it off a table.

What makes them efficient?

The gear form. Cylindrical gears mesh with low losses, and modern helical units reach efficiency above 95 per cent, which cuts the energy the drive system uses and improves the efficiency of the whole installation. On a drive running several shifts a day, that difference shows up on the electricity meter.

Where are these gear units used?

In heavy industry, on production machines, on conveyors and internal transport systems, in mixers, on packing lines and in industrial automation drives. They suit any application that needs even power transmission and a compact drive with high torque. The AMP and AMF series also handles high input speeds.

What should I check before buying?

Torque, output speed, mounting type, sealing class (IP), the method of cooling and the type of lubrication. The duty cycle and the environment the gearbox is installed in matter just as much, because dust, humidity and temperature swings decide the sealing and the lubricant. Send those with your enquiry and the quote comes back complete.
