iH5 high power inverter
The iH5 is a frequency inverter for high power drives, rated up to 280 kW. It handles constant torque and variable torque characteristics, so the control method is matched to the load instead of forced on it, and on a large fan or pump that is where the energy saving comes from. It suits big industrial installations, HVAC systems and media transport.

The drive is aimed at pumps and fans running continuously or under a load that keeps changing. It holds speed steadily, controls torque efficiently and protects the drive across a wide range of operating parameters. Space Vector PWM sits behind the control, a full set of protective functions sits behind the safety, and the operator interface uses LED and LCD indicators.
Sizing starts with the motor power and current, because the range reaches a long way up. Then the load characteristic: variable torque for pump and fan duties, constant torque where the load does not fall away as speed drops. Dynamics matter too. A system that has to react quickly to a change in flow or pressure is set up differently from one that runs steadily for hours.
In HVAC work the control algorithm is the next decision, usually PID. In process applications, cooling, ambient conditions and the mounting position all need checking before installation. The maker asks for vertical mounting with clearance around the unit, and that is worth planning into the panel layout early. The iH5 integrates with automation systems, so tell us which inputs, outputs and digital communication the machine needs.
Typical duties are production lines, machine tools, pumps and fans, and other plant where speed and torque have to be held. Send us the motor rating and the load characteristic and we will confirm the model, with availability confirmed on the quote.

Questions about the LG / LS iH5 series
How big a motor will the iH5 drive?
The range reaches 280 kW, which puts it at the top end of industrial drives, well past where a general purpose inverter stops. Sizing still starts with the motor power and rated current, then the load characteristic. Send us the motor nameplate and what the machine does and we will name the model against both.
Constant torque or variable torque: which do I need?
Variable torque suits pumps and fans, where the load falls away as speed drops, and that is where the energy saving comes from. Constant torque suits machines whose load stays put regardless of speed, a conveyor or a machine tool for instance. The iH5 handles both, so the decision is about the driven machine rather than the drive.
Is the iH5 suitable for continuous running?
Yes. It was designed for pumps and fans that run continuously or under a load that keeps changing, holding speed steadily and controlling torque efficiently across a wide range of operating parameters. On continuous duty the mounting and cooling matter more than usual, so send us the ambient conditions with the enquiry.
How should the drive be mounted?
Vertically, with the clearance the maker specifies around the unit, so heat can get away. On a drive of this size that clearance affects the panel layout, so it is worth settling before the cabinet is built rather than after. Ambient temperature and ventilation in the room need checking at the same time.
Can it be tied into our control system?
Yes. The iH5 integrates with automation systems, and PID control is available for HVAC duties where a set point has to be held. What we need from you is the list of inputs and outputs the machine uses and whether digital communication is required. That decides the configuration we quote.
