Eura Drives 2000 series inverters

The Eura Drives 2000 series, the E2000, is the top drive in the range, built for applications that need precision, high torque and room to expand. It runs closed loop vector control with encoder feedback, which produces up to 180% starting torque at zero speed and stable running at very low speed. Power covers 0.25 kW to 400 kW.

Control modes are VC, SVC, VC1, PMSM control and classic scalar, so the same series covers a simple fan and a machine tool axis. HTL and TTL encoders are supported. A braking module, a class C3 EMC filter and a DC choke are built in, which cuts the number of separate components that have to go in the panel around the drive.

The I/O is extensive, with fast inputs and outputs, pulse counters and functions for cyclic operation. Modbus RTU ties the drive to most PLCs. Protection covers overload at 150% of rated current, short circuit, phase loss, overvoltage and undervoltage, overheating and supply faults, and a hardware no-trip algorithm with automatic restart keeps a process running through a disturbance that would drop a simpler drive.

Sizing starts with the power and the type of load. Where the machine needs high starting torque or has to hold at zero speed, we specify VC, with an encoder if the accuracy demands it. On changing loads or fast speed changes, SVC is normally the right setting. Fast I/O, pulse counters and cyclic operation need listing at the same time, because they affect the configuration.

Questions about the Eura Drives E2000 series

What does the E2000 do that a general purpose drive cannot?

Closed loop vector control with an encoder, which gives up to 180% starting torque at zero speed and holds the motor steady at very low speed. A general purpose drive will not do that reliably. The E2000 also reaches 400 kW and carries a braking module, an EMC filter and a DC choke inside the unit.

Do I need an encoder?

Only where accuracy or torque at a standstill matters. With an HTL or TTL encoder the drive runs closed loop vector control, which is what a machine tool axis or a hoist needs. Where the load changes but precision is not critical, SVC without an encoder is enough. Tell us what the machine has to achieve and we will say which.

What happens on a supply disturbance?

A hardware no-trip algorithm keeps the drive running through a disturbance that would stop a simpler unit, and an automatic restart option brings the process back if it does drop out. That matters on a line where an unplanned stop costs more than the disturbance itself. The protection set also covers phase loss, over and under voltage and overheating.

Which motors does the E2000 run?

Induction motors and PMSM synchronous motors, with scalar, SVC, VC1 and closed loop VC modes to suit. The control mode and parameter set differ between motor types, so tell us which motor is fitted or planned. Getting that right at the quoting stage saves reworking the parameters at commissioning.

How does it connect to a PLC?

Through Modbus RTU, which most controllers support without a gateway. The drive also has fast inputs and outputs, pulse counters and functions for cyclic operation, so a good deal of machine sequencing can sit in the drive rather than the PLC.
