VMR worm gearboxes
VMR worm gearboxes are compact worm gear reducers that cut motor speed and raise torque on industrial drives. Sizes run from 30 to 150. A worm drives a bronze worm wheel, which gives a high reduction in a small envelope and keeps the drive quiet. The series is built around modification: shafts, bushes and diameters can be changed, so the gearbox fits the machine you already have rather than the other way round.

Housings are die-cast aluminium in sizes 30 to 90, which keeps the assembly light and simple to mount. Sizes 110 to 150 are cast iron, for stiffness, load capacity and stable running in harder conditions. Inside, the worm is hardened steel and the worm wheel is bronze, the material pairing that gives a worm gearbox its working life and its quiet running.
Mounting is by feet, by side flange or with the FA to FE flange series, so the unit bolts onto most machine faces without an adaptor. Output shafts are available single or double ended where torque has to leave the gearbox on both sides. A torque arm steadies the unit and takes reaction forces off the housing. Where the connection is not standard, shafts, bushes and modified diameters can be made to your drawing.
Sizing starts with the output speed and the torque needed at the output shaft, because those two fix the ratio and the size. The lighter aluminium sizes, 30 to 90, cover light and medium duty. We move to cast iron, 110 to 150, for higher loads, more frequent working cycles or harder surroundings. Heavy dust, damp and raised ambient temperature also change the housing material and the sealing accessories we specify.

What is a VMR worm gearbox made of?

Aluminium keeps weight off light machine frames, while cast iron gives the stiffness that heavier loads and longer duty cycles need.

Three ways: on feet, on a side flange, or with the FA to FE flange series. Pick the one that matches the space and the machine face. Add a torque arm where the gearbox has to take reaction forces, and choose a single or double ended output shaft depending on which side the driven shaft sits on.
Can the shafts be made to suit my machine?
Yes. The VMR series is designed to be modified: non-standard shafts, bushes and altered diameters are part of the range, so the gearbox can go into an existing drive without redesigning the coupling. Send the drawing, or the dimensions of the shaft it has to meet, and we will confirm what can be made.
Will a VMR gearbox run all day?
Yes, VMR units suit S1 continuous duty when the size matches the load. Continuous running is a question of heat as much as torque, so tell us the ambient temperature and how enclosed the gearbox will be. Frequent starts also work a worm gear reducer hard, so mention the cycle rate and we will allow for it.
