Torque arms
A torque arm is part of the gear motor assembly, the gearbox and motor together, and its job is to hold the gearbox in a fixed position relative to the machine structure. Running the drive creates forces that act back on the unit, and the arm takes them. With that reaction carried, the drive keeps its correct setting and the whole assembly works securely, without the unwanted movement that would otherwise show up in service.

We select the arm on the reaction torque it has to carry, the way it is to be mounted and the conditions it works in. Send the gearbox series, the duty the drive runs and where the arm can be fixed on the machine, and we confirm the part and quote within one working day.

Questions about the Torque arm series
What does a torque arm do?
It holds the gearbox in a stable position against the machine structure and takes up the drive forces that build during running. Without that, the reaction has nowhere to go and the unit moves. With the arm fitted, the drive keeps its correct setting and the gearbox and motor work together as one secure assembly.
How do you size a torque arm?
On three things: the reaction torque the arm has to carry, the way it will be mounted on the machine, and the conditions the drive works in. We need the gearbox series and the duty to work those out. Send them with a note on where the arm can be fixed and we confirm which arm to use.
Does the arm stop the gearbox moving under load?
That is the point of it. The arm takes the forces the drive generates, so the gearbox stays where it was set relative to the machine and the assembly runs without unwanted movement. Alignment holds, which is what keeps the drive predictable. It has to be sized for the reaction torque to do that job properly.

Accessories
Output flanges FA, FB, FC, FD, FE
Output flanges FA, FB, FC, FD and FE bolt a gearbox or gear motor straight to the machine structure, giving a rigid mount where space is limited.
DiscoverAccessories
Single-sided output shafts
Single-sided output shafts take the torque from one side of the gearbox and pass it straight to the driven machine. Sized on load and mounting method.

Double-sided output shafts
Double-sided output shafts send torque out of both sides of the gearbox, so one drive can turn two working elements. Sized on axial and radial load.
