Double-sided output shafts

A double-sided output shaft takes torque out of both sides of the gearbox or gear motor. One drive can then turn more than one working element, or feed a more involved drive layout, with the torque transfer staying stable and continuous on both sides. Machines that split the drive symmetrically, or that work on more than one side at once, are the usual reason for specifying this shaft rather than a single-sided one.

Double-sided output shaft with drive on both sides of the gearbox

Axial and radial loads decide the part here, so we work through them with you before confirming the shaft and the gearbox it fits. Send the gearbox model, what each side drives and the mounting position, and we quote within one working day.

Main features

  • Torque available on both sides of the gearbox

  • Feeds more than one working element

  • For symmetrical or multi-side drive layouts

  • Selected on axial and radial loads

  • Continuous torque transfer on both sides

Applications

  • Machines that split the drive to both sides
  • Two working elements turned by one gear unit
  • More involved drive layouts built around one gearbox
  • Multi-side working machines needing a symmetrical drive

Questions about the Output shaft, double series

What is a double-sided output shaft for?

It gives you a drive output on both sides of the gearbox instead of one. That is what lets a single unit turn more than one working element, or lets you build a more involved drive layout around one gearbox. It is also the shaft to use when the machine needs the drive split symmetrically across it.

Can both sides drive at the same time?

Yes. The shaft carries torque out of both sides of the unit, which is how one gearbox feeds two working elements or splits the drive evenly across a machine. Transfer stays stable and continuous on both sides while the machine runs. Tell us what each side drives so we can check the loads before we confirm the part.

What do you need to size one?

We start from the axial and radial loads on the shaft, since those govern the choice on a double-sided arrangement. Then the gearbox series it has to fit and the way the drive is mounted. Send the gearbox model and what each side of the shaft drives, and we confirm the shaft with the quote.
