Single-sided output shafts

A single-sided output shaft brings torque out of one side of the gearbox or gear motor and connects it to the driven machine. The transfer is direct, which is what keeps it stable and precise, and it suits any drive with a clearly defined working direction. Where the machine takes its drive on one side and needs nothing on the opposite face of the unit, this is the arrangement to specify.

What is a single-sided output shaft?

It is the output shaft that leaves one side of the gearbox or gear motor and drives the machine directly. Torque goes one way, so the connection is simple to make and the transfer stays stable and precise. It is the normal choice when the machine has one clear working direction and the drive does not have to be split.

Should I use a single-sided or a double-sided shaft?

Use a single-sided shaft when the machine takes the drive on one side only. Use a double-sided shaft when torque has to leave both sides of the unit, for example to turn more than one working element or to split the drive symmetrically. If the layout could go either way, send us a drawing of the machine and we will say which fits.

How do you choose the right shaft?

We look at the loads on the shaft, the mounting method and which gearbox series it has to fit. Those three decide the part we supply, and getting the compatibility right matters as much as the load figure.
