WPR inline helical gearboxes
WPR is the plain, high-efficiency end of our inline helical gearbox range. Drive passes through meshing cylindrical gear pairs with straight-cut teeth, a classic arrangement that keeps energy losses low. The series offers a wide choice of ratios, so the output speed can be matched to the machine instead of the machine being built around the gearbox.

The casing is light, which makes the unit easier to handle and easier to integrate with an existing frame. High efficiency is the other reason it gets specified: a coaxial gear unit that runs all shift turns any saving straight into electricity you do not buy. Running is predictable and steady, which is what transport and process lines need.
Sizing starts with the output speed, the torque and the type of load. Pick the frame size that leaves a real torque margin, not the one that just meets the figure on a steady day. Where the load varies or the drive starts often, add margin for life. Radial and axial loads decide the bearing arrangement, so tell us how the load reaches the output shaft.
Mounting comes next: the space you have, how the unit couples to the motor and what the machine structure will take. Then the environment. Heat, dust and damp change the lubricant and the seals we specify, and versions built for outdoor use and for aggressive environments are available. Special shafts, extra seals, anti-corrosion coatings and modified mounting flanges can all be supplied.
WPR units suit simple drives and larger installations alike: conveyors and internal transport, production machines, mixers, packing lines and industrial automation. Send the torque, input speed, required ratio and mounting method, and we come back with a sized unit within one working day.

Questions about the WPR series
What information do you need to size a WPR gearbox?
Four things to start: the ratio or required output speed, the torque, the input speed and how the unit will be mounted. If you also tell us the type of load, how often the drive starts and what the environment is like, we can set the size margin properly rather than quoting the smallest unit that meets the number.
Will a WPR gearbox cope with dust and high temperature?
The series is built for dusty conditions, raised temperatures and heavy loading, and versions for outdoor installation and aggressive environments are available. Conditions do change the specification though: temperature, dust and humidity all feed into the lubricant and the type of sealing we choose, so describe the installation when you send the duty figures.
How do I allow for varying loads and frequent starts?
Add margin. A wide choice of ratios makes it easy to hit the output speed, but the size of the unit is what carries shock and repeated starting. Where the load swings or the drive starts and stops often, we step up the frame so there is torque in reserve, which is what buys you service life.
Can WPR gearboxes be built to a non-standard specification?
Yes. Non-standard versions include additional sealing, special shafts, anti-corrosion coatings and modified mounting flanges, and there are builds intended for outdoor use and for aggressive environments. Tell us what the machine or the site demands, along with the torque and speed figures, and we will confirm what is possible when we quote, within one working day.
