For energy-saving work we point you at IE3, IE4 or IE5. A standard installation runs happily on IE2.
Next we look at where it sits. Ambient temperature, dust and the space you have for mounting all affect the specification, and forced cooling is the answer where heat cannot get away. Questions about the STM Polska series
Which efficiency class should I ask for?
It depends on how long the motor runs. IE2 covers a standard installation. Where a machine runs continuously or for long shifts, IE3, IE4 or IE5 cut the energy the drive uses across the year. Tell us the duty pattern, continuous, intermittent or frequent starts, and we will set the class against the running hours rather than guess at it.
Can I have a motor with a brake?
Yes. A brake version is available where the machine has to stop under control or hold a position. It is part of the build rather than an add-on, so mention it with your enquiry. We size the motor against the load and the duty, including how often the drive starts and stops, then confirm the brake with the rest of the specification.
When do I need forced cooling?
We recommend forced cooling in conditions that need steady heat removal: a high ambient temperature, heavy dust, or a mounting position with little air around the motor. Send us the ambient conditions and the duty cycle with your enquiry and we will say whether the standard build copes or the motor needs separate cooling.
Will the shaft match my gearbox?
It can be made to. Shaft diameter and length are part of the mechanical build, so the motor can be machined to fit the gear unit or the machine directly, with no adaptor in between. Send a drawing or the gearbox input details with your enquiry. We check the fit before quoting, which is the point where a mistake is still easy to correct.
Can the motor run from an inverter?
Yes. These motors are built to work with gearboxes, inverters and control systems on standard industrial supplies. Tell us which drive you plan to use and the speed range you need. A wide speed range, or long spells at low speed, changes what we recommend for cooling, so it is worth saying at the enquiry stage.
