Siemens three-phase motors
Siemens three-phase motors come from the SIMOTICS range, used across industrial plant worldwide. They convert electrical energy into rotation through the magnetic field set up in the stator, and they are specified for steady, energy-efficient running over a long cycle. Efficiency classes run from IE2 to IE5. Protection is IP55 as standard, with IP56 and IP65 available where the motor meets more dust or water.

The build is foot-mounted or flange-mounted. Foot versions suit stable installations bolted to a bed or frame. Flange versions make integration easier where the drive is transmitted axially into a machine or gear unit. Insulation is class F/B, which gives thermal headroom on loaded drives running long cycles. Motors can be fed straight from the mains or from a frequency inverter, so one unit serves a fixed-speed or a variable-speed drive.
SIMOTICS motors are inverter duty and work with Sinamics drives, which matters when the specification calls for one supplier through the drive train. Most models in the range are designed and certified for S1 continuous duty. If the motor will be inverter fed, say so with the enquiry: the speed range and the load at the bottom of it affect what we recommend.
We start with the power and torque the machine needs, so the motor sits in a sensible part of its load range. Efficiency class comes next. Moving up to IE3, IE4 or IE5 pays back on machines that run continuously, and the sums are worth doing before the order goes in. What protection rating do Siemens motors come with?
IP55 is the standard degree, which covers dust and moisture in most industrial settings. IP56 and IP65 builds are available where there is heavier dust or the motor is exposed to water. Which efficiency class is worth specifying?
IE2 meets a standard installation. On machines that run continuously, stepping up to IE3, IE4 or IE5 cuts energy use measurably across a year, and that is where the higher classes earn their place. We work it out against your running hours and load rather than name a class in the abstract.
Are these motors made for continuous industrial duty?
