WSKA bevel helical gearboxes
WSKA is a bevel helical gearbox: bevel stages working together with helical stages to change the direction the torque is transmitted, most often through 90 degrees. It is the unit to specify when the motor cannot sit in line with the driven shaft, and it packages the whole drive compactly while keeping efficiency high.

The gearing is designed for continuous duty and resists wear, so the parameters you size against are the parameters you still have several years in. Efficiency holds up in both directions of rotation and across a wide range of input speeds. That makes this right-angle helical unit a sound replacement where an older, less efficient drive is costing energy and causing stoppages.
Sizing starts with the output speed, the torque and the type of load. Match the ratio to the motor speed and the machine so the gearbox works in its proper range with a safety margin left. Drives with a high number of starts, or with frequent changes of direction, need a version with higher load capacity, and on those it is worth checking efficiency across the whole speed range rather than at one point.
Then decide how the unit sits in the machine. WSKA gearboxes are often fitted as the right-angle element in conveyors and transport systems, so shaft orientation, the free space around the unit and the way torque carries on to the next part of the installation all matter. Radial and axial loads set both the size of the gearbox and the permitted shaft loads.

Questions about the WSKA series
When do I need a right-angle gearbox rather than an inline one?
When the motor cannot sit in line with the driven shaft, or when the drive has to be packaged into a corner of the machine. WSKA gearboxes combine bevel and helical stages to turn the torque, usually through 90 degrees, which lets you keep the motor out of the way without losing efficiency.
Does efficiency drop when the drive runs in reverse?
No. WSKA units hold their efficiency in both directions of rotation and across a wide range of input speeds. That matters on reversing duties and on drives fed by an inverter, where the input speed is not fixed. On drives with frequent reversals we also specify a version with higher load capacity.
Which ratio do I need for a conveyor?
Work from the belt speed you need at the drum, back through the drum diameter to an output speed, then match the ratio to the speed of the motor you intend to use. We then check torque, including the starting condition, and leave a safety margin. Send us the figures and we confirm the size and the ratio.
What else affects the size I need?
Radial and axial loads on the output shaft, the number of starts, and whether the load is constant or varying. Mounting matters too: shaft orientation, the space available and how torque is passed to the next element. Temperature, humidity, dust and vibration decide any extra protection, and that decision belongs at the sizing stage.
